Science curriculum intent:
At St George’s CE Primary School and Pre-School, we aim to inspire curiosity about the natural world through engaging and meaningful scientific experiences. We actively encourage children to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by providing scientific investigations and evidence-based conclusions. Communication and teamwork underpin much of our practice; we promote collaboration and communication through group experiments, analysis of results or scientific research.
Implementation:
The curriculum is sequenced to build on prior knowledge, with units progressing from simple to more complex concepts. Lessons include direct instruction, guided practice, and independent exploration, ensuring a balance of support and challenge. St George’s Primary School follows a rolling programme of scientific topics as it is delivered to mixed age classes. Key knowledge and key vocabulary are carefully selected and are explicitly taught and explained to the children.
